To many people, the ships of Star Trek, especially those of Starfleet, are among the most interesting aspects of the show. The creators have done their best to support this interest, including a variety of classes in the shows and films and providing resources, such as the Star Trek Encyclopedia, that include additional information on the vessels. Unfortunately, the information we have has been contradicted at times, usually caused by lack of research on the part of the writers and artists working on new episodes/movies/books. Although this doesn't happen often, the inconsistencies have been discussed at great length by fans. This site is an attempt to summarize those discussions to present all sides of the related argument. In most cases, there is no definitive "last word" or final rationalization; instead, several possibilities are listed.
